The Waunakee Area Soccer Club, founded in 1978, is celebrating our 30th year of soccer success in Waunakee. The club was formed with the vision of serving the soccer needs of the greater Waunakee area. The club was focused on building the recreational soccer program for most of its first 20 years of existence.
Over the last 7-8 years the Waunakee Area Soccer Club has also embraced a competitive focus and has fast become one of the most visible and successful soccer entities in the state of Wisconsin, consistently placing teams into the state league and winning tournaments throughout the midwest. The club has flourished over these years under the guidance of a solid Board of Directors and a coaching staff dedicated to developing teams and players to achieve superior results. In 2005 the WASC staged its first annual Waunakee Cup Soccer Tournament to rave reviews from participating teams. The Cup tournament has grown each of the last 3 years, providing great competition and camaraderie. August 2008 will be no exception as we expect many top teams from the region to make their way to Waunakee for another great weekend of high level youth soccer.
The WASC instills a love for the game in our young players and cultivates that passion as each athlete matures. We build pride in our individuals, our teams, our community and our club. We foster an environment that allows each player to experience the thrill of competition and participation, and the challenge of development. The WASC takes pride in the growth of club members as athletes, students and responsible young men and women. We believe in creating positive learning environments for our players. In accordance with this guiding philosophy, the club launched the youth developmental academy in the winter of 2007. Over 60 young boys and girls aged 5-9 enrolled in the first developmental academy and were taught the basic fundamentals of soccer as well as a deep-rooted love for the game. The youth developmental academy returns for the spring of 2008.
The Waunakee Area Soccer Club's tremendous success in recent years is demonstrated in the fact that of its approximate 1,000 players, over 375 are playing competitive soccer in Regional, Premier, First Division, and Classic level leagues at all appropriate ages and genders.
Participants in WASC teams are from all around southern Wisconsin, with a majority of them from the Waunakee area. Those players from outside Waunakee take their experiences and expertise back to their home towns and schools. Many succeed personally and lead their school teams to success as well.
One of the best examples of the Waunakee Area Soccer Club's success is displayed by the Waunakee Community High School soccer programs.
The girl's varsity soccer teams have won six consecutive Badger North Conference championships. The 2007 team was ranked 5th in the Division I Final Poll by the Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association, and compiled a record of 18 wins, 6 losses and 1 tie, outscoring their opponents by a margin of 46 to 21, while playing one of the toughest schedules in the state. Over the last 6 seasons the Waunakee girls have won 125, lost 23 and tied 17. Over that same time period, the girls team has won 34 and lost only once in Badger North Conference play. In 2007, five Waunakee players were named first team All-Conference with one player being named to the Wisconsin State Journal All-Area team.
The boy's varsity soccer team won the Badger North Conference as well in 2007, bowing out in the regional semi-final round. The boys program continues to grow and develop and consistently challenge for the Badger North Conference title. In 2007 the boys also had five players named first team All-Conference with one being named to the Wisconsin State Journal All-Area team as well. The boys program has also seen many players move on to play collegiate soccer.
The Waunakee Area Soccer Club offers the opportunity for any player, including those that are serious about playing high school soccer and beyond, the opportunity to develop to the best of their abilities in the successful style and philosophy that our club and coaching staff embraces and teaches.
