United Council of UW Students, Inc. Celebrating 48 Years of Working for Students
14 W. Mifflin St. Suite 212,
Madison, WI 53703
The United Council of UW Students is the nation's oldest, largest and most effective statewide student association, representing more than 110,000 students on 21 University of Wisconsin campuses. Founded in 1960, United Council is a non-partisan, non-profit, student-directed organization that works to protect access to higher education in Wisconsin and enhance the quality of life for all UW students.
United Council is governed by a Board of Directors, its policy and campaigns are set by the General Assembly and executed by students on member campuses throughout the year.
Through grassroots campaigns, United Council has proven effective in keeping the voices of students heard within the state's political system. UC also provides skill trainings and opportunities necessary to winning campaigns, including educational materials, trainings and networking.
Some recent United Council victories include:
Winning a tuition freeze for the 13 two-year campuses
Winning tuition remission for Wisconsin veterans and their families
Winning a link between tuition and financial aid-meaning if tuition rises, financial aid must go up as well
Winning a second student seat to the Board of Regents, this is the highest governing body of the entire UW System. Now we have two student voices on the board that sets tuition and other policies for the UW System.
